Easy tips to create your family space at home
For most families, the living room is the heart of the home. It’s the place where everyone comes together for some much-needed family time. Whether that’s chatting, playing games or having a movie night, the living room is one of the most important rooms in the house.
While living rooms are meant to be spaces that the whole family can spend time in, often they are not family-friendly. It can be tricky getting it right when it comes to creating a space that is child and adult-friendly.

However, if you take these tips on board, you can design a space that’s perfect for the whole family.
This doesn’t mean painting your living room in your child’s favourite colour - bright, bold tones are a big no-no. What it means is opting for paint that is child-friendly, aka is easy to wipe clean. We all know that kids make a mess wherever they go, so preparing for that is crucial. Well, if you want your lounge to stay nice, that is.
There are various types of paint that are easy to clean, but the best are satin and semi-gloss. If, however, you prefer a matte finish, opt for ‘flat paints’, as these look great and are also easy to clean. If your child has a habit of drawing on the walls, consider decorating with chalkboard paint. This would give them the creativity to doodle wherever they like, as the walls could be brushed clean afterwards.
If you want to keep your living room looking nice, then you need to be choosy about the types of sofas that you have. Just like the walls, for a family-friendly room, all furniture should be easy to clean.
When it comes to the perfect sofas for a family-friendly living room, any designs that can be wiped clean are ideal. Leather, for instance, is perfect for a family room, as any spills or stains can be wiped up easily. If leather is too expensive, opt for couches that have washable slipcovers, so that any stains can be washed out.

This might sound a little strange, but kids love lounging on the floor. Whether that’s when they are playing with their toys or relaxing watching television, little ones often enjoy being on the floor.
To make them more comfortable, consider investing in floor cushions or big bean bag chairs for them to sit on. If you don’t have enough room to add floor cushions and bean bag chairs, a fluffy rug could work just as well.
Every mum’s worst nightmare is her child getting hurt - coffee table corners are notorious for causing injuries. Especially for toddlers and young children - they’re always bumping their heads.
To prevent your kids from hurting themselves, swap your coffee tables for a child-friendly design. This could be a circular coffee table - these are ideal as they have no sharp corners. Or, it could be an ottoman, instead of a regular table. (This might sound like a strange idea, but it works surprisingly well.)
When it comes to creating a living room that’s both child and adult-friendly it can be tricky to get the balance right. However, by following the ideas above, you can make it a little easier for yourself.
